Artist bios

BEVERLY ARTS CENTER  (Family Activities) The Beverly Arts Center is a vibrant and multifaceted not-for-profit organization serving the Chicago metro area with high-quality programs in dance, visual arts, music, film and theater. The 40,000 square foot space houses a 400-seat theatre, art gallery, exhibition spaces, music and dance studios, art classrooms and event rental spaces including a courtyard and light-filled atrium. Founded in 1967 and located in Chicago’s historic Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood, the BAC is also home to an extensive community outreach program.

 

MARY BRANCH (Dancer, Move Me Soul) is a principal dancer at Move Me Soul Dance Company of Chicago, IL. She began dancing at age 7 and has trained with Move Me Soul since 2011. Mary has studied and performed with Move Me Soul at the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts, Kingston, Jamaica and is currently a part of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project. In 2015 Mary trained with the “Dancing Dolls” of Lifetime television. Mary has a certificate in Child Development and works as a preschool teacher. Mary is the proud mother of twins and believes that dance is an opportunity for her to give herself “to tell a creative story.”

 

OSCAR BROWN  (Guitar/Bass) is a multi-instrumentalist and music producer from Chicago. Recent theater credits include The Gospel at Colonus (Lead Guitar) at The Court Theater; Women of Soul (Guitar) at Mercury Theater; and Blue Heaven (Lead Guitar), Grandma’s Jukebox (Lead Guitar/Vocal Arranger/Band Leader), and the Plays With A Purpose series at Black Ensemble Theater. JOHNATHAN CAMPBELL (Drums, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center) is a drummer from Bronzeville, Chicago. He started playing drums at 3 years old, and was musically raised in church and an after-school program called Intonation Music Workshop that he has been with for 13 years as a student and 3 years as a music instructor. Johnathan has performed at countless venues including the House of Blues, Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and more, as well as performing with musicians such as John Stirratt of Wilco. Johnathan is also an Elmhurst University college student (class of 2026) studying Jazz. This is Johnathan’s second musical and most definitely not the last.

BRASSEL CHANEY (Dancer, Move Me Soul) is a principal dancer at Move Me Soul Dance Company of Chicago, IL. He began dancing at age 7 and trained with Move Me Soul since 2012. Brassel has studied and performed with Move Me Soul at the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica and is currently a part of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project. He was recently featured with Damon Locks and the Black Monument Ensemble. He describes dance for him as “an emotional outlet.”

JOSE “iasEL” GONZALEZ (Spoken word) is an actor, poet, and storyteller. He is the host of Legal Aliens—a podcast about living in America from an urban Latino perspective—as well as the host and producer of La Sala—Cuentos from the Latino Living Room, a storytelling series that features comedy, spoken word, and music. Previous Chicago Shakespeare credits include being an Arts Partner for the Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks productions of The Comedy of Errors and ShakesFest, as well as appearing as a featured performer in the streaming event TO BE in 2021 and 2023.

 

 

JARQUEZE HALLEY (Dancer, Move Me Soul) is a principal dancer at Move Me Soul Dance Company of Chicago, IL. He has been dancing for 15 years and has trained with Move Me Soul for 10 years. Jarqueze has participated with Move Me Soul in collaborations across the Chicago land, including Black Dance Legacy Project and Museum of Contemporary Arts, as well as internationally at the Edna Manley College of Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. Jarqueze has also danced alongside prominent artists such as the Usher in his Las Vegas Residency, Shawnna, and KeKe Wyatt, as well as up and coming Chicago artists including Mikey Everything and Hasaan Honus, in addition to many music videos. Jarqueze is happy to join Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks this summer.

 

CINDY JOHNSON (Dancer, Yin He Dance) CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE: Debut. DANCE: Aerial Dance Chicago (2 seasons), Yin He Dance Company, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theater (apprentice 2020-2021), Rivet Dance Company, Echo Modern Dance Collective. EDUCATION: BFA in Dance, Western Washington University. INSTRUCTOR: Choreographer for Park District of Oak Park Performing Arts Program.

 

 

 

NOELLE KLYCE (Vocals, Text) holds an Acting BFA ('18) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her most recent theatre credits include Marianne Angelle in The Revolutionists (Oil Lamp Theater and UIUC Illinois Theatre), Sergeant Emita in Ezekiel's Wheel (MPAACT), a featured vocalist in ShakesFest: A Chicago Shakespeare Community Cabaret (Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks), Mistress Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor (Hoosier Shakespeare Festival), Lady Macduff/Hecate/Donalbain/Menteith in Macbeth (Hoosier Shakespeare Festival), and Maven in It’s Just Like Coming to Church at Black Ensemble Theater (nominated for a 2022 Black Theater Alliance Award for The Eartha Kitt Award: Best Featured Actress in a Musical).

 

RAVEN LEWIS (Dancer, Move Me Soul) is a principal dancer at Move Me Soul Dance Company of Chicago, IL. She began dancing at age 6 and has trained with Move Me Soul since 2014. Raven has studied and performed with Move Me Soul at the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica and is currently a part of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project. Raven has had opportunities to perform in a spring break tour in Texas as a backup dancer for Keisha Cole. She has also choreographed for two partnering projects with Move Me Soul and the Museum of Contemporary Art. She describes her dancing as “having a conversation without words.”

ZAHRAH MUHAMMAD (Text) is a teen actress, model, and dancer trained by Chicago Performing Arts and Move Me Soul. She made her theater debut as a child with the Lab Theater as the Mouse in Alice in Wonderland. She has also played July in Annie with the Sandridge Players. She has made television appearances in HBO's LoveCraft Country and Showtime Original The Chi. Zahrah was a featured model in Sally Blood's Red Dress Series that received international attention. She is currently a part of Move Me Soul's Teen Dance Apprenticeship. Zahrah aspires to be a professional model and actress.

DIANA MUHAMMAD (Assistant Choreography, Executive Director of Move Me Soul) is an Educator, Community Activist and Artist in Chicago, IL. She has been the Managing Director of Move Me Soul Dance Company since 2012. She is the Dance Teacher at Beasley Academic Center and Lead Resident Mentor for Dance Teachers in Chicago Public Schools. She has been dancing, teaching, and choreographing throughout Chicagoland since 1996. She is a former dancer with Chicago’s Najwa Dance Corps. Diana has a BS in Elementary Education and a Juris Doctor both from DePaul University. She has had extended studies in dance at Northeastern Illinois, Columbia College, and Loyola University. Diana is committed to building “excellence in art, education and character in young people.”

EMMA LYONS (Scenic Arts Partner) A professional abstract artist, Emma is honored to be a Shakespeare in the Parks Scenic Arts Partner for the third year in a row. Amidst creating her distinctive Abstracture paintings and presenting them to both the local art fair scene and private collectors, she gratefully embraces the opportunity to reconnect with her first love, theatre. CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE: ShakesFest and DREAM. LIVE ART: Prada, OnTour Brewing Co., Fulton Street Collective. BOB MASON (Casting) celebrates 23 years as CST’s Casting Director in September. Among the 150 projects he has shepherded, his personal favorites include SIX: The Musical (CST, Broadway); numerous Shakespeare titles with Barbara Gaines and Sondheim productions with Gary Griffin; Rose Rage, directed by Edward Hall (CST, Duke on 42nd St); Ride The Cyclone (CST and MCC), directed by Rachel Rockwell; and The Moliere Comedies, directed by Brian Bedford. Prior to casting, Bob enjoyed a career as a Jeff Award-winning singer and actor.

PAIGE WHITSON-MARTINI (Program Lead/General Manager) oversees arts administration and leads the Theater's community engagement programs and WorldStage presentations. REGIONAL: Arden Theatre Company (Gypsy; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Magic 8); The Old Globe (Julius Caesar); Point Loma Opera Theatre (Cendrillon, Trouble in Tahiti, Dido and Aeneas); Theatre Contra (The Lesson). INTERNATIONAL: Shakespeare400 Festival (Measure for Measure; Shakespeare’s Sister; “Domestic Shakespeare”); Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (First Stage: Jette Parker Young Artists Program). EDUCATION/TRAINING: MFA in Arts Leadership, DePaul University; MA in Shakespeare Studies, King’s College London; Arden Professional Apprenticeship.
