GALA 2013 Raises Over $1.1 Million
in Support of Chicago Shakespeare Theater
Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s GALA 2013 presented the third annual Spirit of Shakespeare Awards to Civic Honoree, former Mayor Richard M. Daley, and Artistic Honoree, composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Broadway stars Audra McDonald, Jason Danieley and Marin Mazzie joined Chicago’s civic and business leaders to champion the Theater’s nationally recognized program, Chicago Shakespeare in Urban Communities.
A New Summer Tradition—Free For All
Building on the success of last summer’s inaugural Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour, the expanded 2013 program brings CST’s professional production of The Comedy of Errors, FREE FOR ALL, to 18 neighborhood parks across Chicago, from Portage Park to Humboldt Park and the South Shore.

During the 2012/13 season, CST’s nationally recognized arts-in-education program Team Shakespeare partnered with hundreds of schools in Chicago and throughout the Midwest to lift Shakespeare’s poetry off the page for more than 40,000 students and teachers.

Hip-Hop Shakespeare Plays Cook County Jail
Marking the 100th performance of Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s Othello: The Remix, cast members performed the hip-hop adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy for inmates on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Cook County Department of Corrections.

CST Deepens Partnerships in Pilsen
Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Benito Juarez Community Academy and Latinos Progresando presented a concert version of In the Heights in Pilsen. The sold-out show featured local artists from the Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards and Lawndale neighborhoods.
