Measure for Measure

The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare
by William Shakespeare
directed by Henry Godinez

Shakespeare’s searing exploration of sexual politics and social injustice comes to the stage in a gripping new production, directed by celebrated theater-maker Henry Godinez. In a city that has decayed into corruption, lust and pleasure resist legislation, Measure for Measure dissects the nature of government, love, and justice—asking unsettling questions about the complex relationships between those in power and those they govern. As resident artistic associate at Goodman Theatre, Godinez has an extensive impressive line-up of directing credits including Charise Castro Smith’s Feathers and Teeth, The Sins of Sor Juana and Mariela in the Desert by Karen Zacarías, and José Rivera’s Boleros for the Disenchanted, also staging its world premiere at Yale Repertory Theatre.

Chicago Shakespeare returns to its roots as a repertory theater company with a pairing of Shakespeare plays performed in The Yard with a single ensemble of actors: Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night.
