The Grant Writer at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) will support the Deputy Director for Advancement in the research, positioning and drafting of key proposals and reports related to annual corporate, foundation and government gifts as well as the Theater’s capital and endowment campaign. This position is a key partner to the Advancement Department, and requires an intimate knowledge of Chicago Shakespeare’s programs as well as exceptional writing and editing skills. This is a full-time, salaried position (40 hours per week).

Write well-researched and compelling grant proposals and reports demonstrating the impact of the education, production, and current operating programs of Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including deadlines and cultivation activities.
Research CST productions and programs and help shape performance metrics and supporting materials to represent the scope and impact of each.
Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals and reports.
Research and identify new corporate, foundation and government funding opportunities.
Serve as a visible, articulate spokesperson for CST at relevant meetings and events.

- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management or related coursework.
- Minimum one year of professional writing experience.
Excellent writing, research and analytical skills are essential.
Highly literate in Microsoft Office Suite, including letter formats, document layout, mail merges, tables and spreadsheets.
Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects to meet stringent deadlines.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to best serve the needs of a project.
Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment.
Availability to work some nights and weekends.
Familiarity with Tessitura or other fundraising databases a plus.
Interest in arts and culture a plus
