The Tempest

The Tempest

Fall 2022

at Chicago Shakespeare Theater
by William Shakespeare
directed by Sheldon Epps

Chicago Shakespeare joins forces with leading director Sheldon Epps to stage a new production of one of Shakespeare’s most fantastical tales—destined to be “such stuff as dreams are made on.” An award-winning director on Broadway (Tony Award-nominated Play On! and musical revue Blues in the Night) and TV (CBS’s Frasier and UPN/The CW’s Girlfriends), Epps now brings his signature artistic vision to the lyrical storytelling of the Bard’s mystical romance. Accompanied by his daughter Miranda, the vengeful sorcerer Prospero reigns over a remote enchanted island full of sprites and spirits where nothing is as it seems. When old foes—and an attractive young suitor—wash ashore in a shipwreck, Prospero must harness the ultimate power of forgiveness and embrace the brave new world of the calm after the storm.
