DISCOVER Kelvyn Park IN HERMOSA

Kelvyn Park

Located in the Hermosa neighborhood (which means “beautiful” in Spanish), the Kelvyn Park area is one of Chicago’s most densely populated and culturally vibrant residential neighborhoods. Kelvyn was among the original parks created by the Northwest Park District in 1911, before becoming a part of the Chicago Park District in 1934. Today, Kelvyn is known for its red brick fieldhouse and its stand-out Junior Bears football program. It also offers walking paths, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, horseshoe courts, and a playground complete with a sandbox and spray pool.

Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center

Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center

Watch Performance

SRBCC is the oldest Latino cultural center in Chicago. Established in 1971, it was named in honor of Segundo Ruiz Belvis, a Puerto Rican patriot and member of a secret abolitionist society that freed slave children under Spanish rule. In that spirit, SRBCC realizes its mission to preserve and promote appreciation of the culture and arts of Puerto Rico and Latin America, with a unique emphasis on its African heritage. Through multi-disciplinary programs, with a strong focus on the youth, they celebrate Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Latino cultural traditions through dance, music, theater, and visual arts.
