Nestor “the Boss” Gomez arrived from Guatemala at age 15, with a stutter and no knowledge of the English language. He told his first story at a Moth slam in order to get over his fear of public speaking. He won the slam that night and has won over 90 slams since. He also created his own storytelling show 80 Minutes Around the Worlds which features the stories of immigrants, refugees, their descendants and allies.

A cultural high point of our city’s Latino Heritage Month, the Chicago International Latino Theater Festival Destinos showcases Latino theater artists and companies from around the world. This one-night only performance is presented in partnership by the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, a partner since the festival’s inception.

Now in its 8th year, Destinos showcases the most extensive line-up of Latino theater artists in the festival’s history, featuring 22 productions at theaters large and small all over the city, with works from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the U.S., and Chicago.
