Nestor “the Boss” Gomez arrived from Guatemala at age 15, with a stutter and no knowledge of the English language. He told his first story at a Moth slam in order to get over his fear of public speaking. He won the slam that night and has won over 90 slams since. He also created his own storytelling show 80 Minutes Around the Worlds which features the stories of immigrants, refugees, their descendants and allies.

The Destinos – Chicago International Latino Theater festival is the largest annual international Latine theater festival in the U.S. since 2017. This pillar program of the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) showcases Latine theater artists from Chicago, the U.S. and Latin America along with Intercambios workshops, artist conversations and student matinees. The festival creates a platform where Latine stories can be uplifted, celebrated and transcend boundaries to encourage cross-cultural conversation. This one-night only performance is presented in partnership by the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance and Chicago Shakespeare Theater, a partner since the festival’s inception.

Destinos Festival 2025
Now in its 8th year, the Destinos – Chicago International Latino Theater festival showcases the most extensive line-up of Latine theater artists in the festival’s history, featuring 22 productions at theaters large and small all over the city, with works from Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the U.S., and Chicago.
