Othello: The Remix

Musicians, actors, writers, educators and DJs, The Q Brothers, GQ, and JQ, have created and appeared in award-winning, internationally acclaimed productions with company members Jackson Doran and Postell Pringle, including Othello: The Remix and Funk it Up About Nothin’—both musical, hip-hop “ad-RAP-tations” of Shakespeare’s classics—and A Q Brothers’ Christmas Carol, written with Doran and Pringle, based on the Dickens classic. Othello: The Remix had its world premiere at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London for the 2012 Globe to Globe Festival; toured to Germany, South Korea, London and Edinburgh Festival Fringe (MTM: UK Awards, Best Lyrics and Best New Musical); enjoyed a five-month, celebrated run at Chicago Shakespeare Theater; and recently headed to Australia for the acclaimed Sydney Festival and the Arts Centre Melbourne, Poland for the Gdansk Shakespeare Festival, to the United Arab Emirates for Art for All in Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Festival, and The Auckland Arts Festival in New Zealand. Funk it Up About Nothin’ was commissioned by Chicago Shakespeare Theater (Jeff Award, Best Ensemble), ran at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Dress Circle Award, Best Musical), and toured to London and Australia. A Q Brothers’ Christmas Carol, called, “downright irresistible” and “complete brilliance” by the Chicago Sun-Times, debuted this year at CST to sold out houses. The Q Brothers’ Off Broadway smash hit The Bomb-itty of Errors has toured around the world. Film and television credits include Scratch and Burn (MTV), which they co-created and starred in, as well as work with Fox, CBS and Showtime. Their numerous album credits as musicians and producers include The Q Brothers’ The Feel Good Album of the Year. The Q Brothers also conduct hip hop workshops for children of all ages, and have worked with Connecticut College, Lehigh University, Lollapalooza Music Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, the Latin School of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools.
