Chicago Shakespeare Theater is currently accepting Casting Intern applications for Fall 2016. Applications must be received by July 1, 2016.
An internship in the Casting department at Chicago Shakespeare Theater provides hands-on experience in the day-to-day goings on in this busy office. Interns can expect to play an integral role in the department. Duties will include: organizing casting calls; setting up audition times for actors; sitting in on auditions (including equity and non-equity general auditions); updating and maintaining actor files and database; corresponding with actors and agents regarding auditions; arranging audition materials; and assisting Casting Director, Bob Mason. The casting intern becomes a true member of the casting office and gains invaluable insight and experience in what goes into casting a diverse season of programming here on Navy Pier.
College students, graduates and early career professionals are eligible to apply. The fall internship is especially well suited to a current college student with part-time availability. Chicago Shakespeare Theater's internship program provides detailed hands-on training, free tickets to CST shows and other productions, as well as occasional intern forums with CST staff and area professionals.
Desired Skills and Experience
- A minimum of two years of undergraduate education preferably in an arts-related field.
- Detail oriented multi-tasker who has excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills and is comfortable interacting with theater professionals both in person and on the phone.
- Computer literate (experience with excel and Microsoft word)
- Possess the ability to work both independently as well as with a team.
- Previous experience in arts administration is a plus.
Due to the nature of the internship, actors and actresses who are pursuing work in the acting field may not be the best fit for this particular internship, although we will consider all applicants. Chicago Shakespeare Theater is an equal opportunity institution and we encourage and welcome a diverse group of applicants.
An intern in the casting office must be able to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks of work beginning the first week of September. Seeking a part-time intern who is available 2-3 days per week.
Please submit your current resume, a cover letter expressing your interest, your available dates, level of commitment (ex: full-time, part-time) and two letters of academic/professional reference. Incomplete application cannot be accepted.
Applications must be received by July 1, 2016. Please send all application materials to the email address listed below. We will review all submissions and contact qualified candidates for an interview.
