Chicago Shakespeare Theater seeks highly skilled costume craft artisans for upcoming production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. Responsibilities include independently interpreting and implementing costume crafts projects from a two dimensional drawing into a three dimensional product. These items may include, but are not limited to: millinery, jewelry, footwear, armor, foam structures, mechanical costume pieces, masks, belts, and weapon rigging. Candidate must have pattern and draping skills, hand and machine sewing skills, and a wide knowledge of different building materials including but not limited to various fabrics, leather, buckram, adhesives, and paints. Knowledge of fabric dyeing and painting is encouraged as well.; Must have strong communication skills specifically when working with design staff, actors, Crafts Supervisor, Costume Shop Manager, and other production personnel with proven experience working in fittings. Must possess strong time management skills and self motivation to balance a varied and heavy workload. Ideal candidate has a degree in technical theatre and at least 2 years professional experience or equivalent.
Position is paid hourly. Hours will generally be 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, but may be longer based on the needs of the production, and will start mid-October and end in December. Future employment opportunities may be available.
