Romeo and Juliet

February 23

March 23, 2013

in CST's Courtyard Theater

directed and adapted by Rachel Rockwell

What is all the fighting about?

Shakespeare doesn’t leave us any clues as to what caused the feud in the first place between the Capulets and the Montagues. But we can imagine…

Throughout history, there have been many famous feuds, including the one between the Hatfields and the McCoys in the American South in the late 1800s, the English Wars of the Roses in the mid 1400s, and the Campbell and MacDonald feud in Scotland, which began in 1297 and lasted for 450 years!

  • Have you ever been involved in a feud?
  • Do you know of any real-life examples of feuds taking place right now?
  • At school?
  • At home?
  • In your neighborhood?
  • In the news?

Think about what may have started the feud.

  • Is the original cause still important to the people involved now?
  • Or is the feud continuing because neither side is willing to stop?
  • What do you think needs to happen in order for the feud to end?
