Dr. Martine Green-Rogers

Dr. Martine Green-Rogers

Dean of The Theatre School, DePaul University
Dr. Green-Rogers will lead the Scholarscape exploring the context and history of Twelfth Night.

Martine has held several positions in dramaturgy, literary management, writing, directing and creative storytelling in the professional theatre and entertainment industries. Her portfolio includes positions at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Court Theatre in Chicago. Her research interests include violence in African American Theatre, African diaspora theatre, gender and race in American theatre, and issues of sustainability in the theatre. She obtained her PhD from the Department of Theatre and Drama at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to studying at UW-Madison, she received her B.A. in Theatre from Virginia Wesleyan College and her M.A. in Theatre History and Criticism from The Catholic University of America.

 

Chris Anthony

Co-Head of BFA Acting and Assistant Professor Performance, DePaul University
Chris Anthony will facilitate a session on Embodying the Text of Shakespeare

Chris is a director, teacher, actor, and producer working at the intersection of art and community empowerment. As Associate Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles, she oversaw the development of the company’s Youth & Education programs including Will Power to Youth, which won the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award and was studied by Harvard’s Project Zero, and Will Power to Schools, which offered teachers professional development, performances, and workshops. Professional directing credits include Off the Rails for Native Voices at the Autry, Lunch Lady Courage at Cornerstone Theater, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo & Juliet, and Othello at the St. Louis Black Rep, and Romeo & Juliet at Notre Dame Shakespeare and SCLA. Chris is an Associate Professor of Performance at DePaul University

 

Tyrone Phillips

Tyrone Phillips

Twelfth Night Director & founding Artistic Director of Definition Theatre
Tyrone will share in an artistic dialogue about the concept and process of directing the play

Named one of Newcity's Players—the 50 leaders of Chicago’s theater, dance, opera and comedy culture of 2022, Tyrone is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has studied abroad at Shakespeare’s Globe. As a first generation Jamaican-American, he is passionate about equity and inclusion in the fine arts and has completed advanced anti-racism training to lead change in our community. Select theater credits on and off stage include: Definition Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare, Goodman, Steppenwolf, Writers, Old Globe, Berkeley Rep, Milwaukee Rep, and Stage 42 (Off Broadway). Tyrone is currently adjunct faculty at DePaul University and the University of Illinois - Chicago while also serving on the Board of Directors for the League of Chicago Theaters. Most recently he received the Arts Midwest Inaugural Peter Capell Award for Midwestern Creativity and Entrepreneurship and is a proud member of NAACP, SAG-AFTRA, and SDC.

 

Gabrielle Randle-Bent

Gabrielle Randle-Bent

Associate Artistic Director at Court Theater
Gabby will facilitate an artistic dialogue with director Tyrone Philips.

Gabrielle is a scholar, dramaturg, and director in Chicago. Her recent collaborations include co-directing Court Theatre's production of The Tragedy of Othello The Moor of Venice with Charles Newell, and directed an adaptation of Eve L. Ewing's 1919 for Steppenwolf for Young Adults. She also served as the dramaturg for Court’s production’s of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow is Enuf, and The Oedipus Trilogy. Gabrielle is a co-founder of the Civic Actor’s Studio, a program of the University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement. She was featured in American Theatre Magazine’s “Role Call: People to Watch.” She is a PhD candidate at Northwestern University and Associate Artistic Director at Court Theater.
