“Chicago Shakespeare offers THE BEST workshops for teachers. Everything we are given applies directly to classroom instruction, and the play handbooks offer so many incredible additional activities. Thank you, as always, for loving teachers!”
–Teacher, Bishop Noll Institute, Hammond, IN
We start with a play. We create a learning laboratory where teachers can roll up their sleeves, take in new ideas and try out some drama-based, Common Core-aligned teaching strategies. We add a Shakespeare scholar to the mix, giving us historical and contemporary perspectives. Then we invite a leading Shakespeare artist to join us and explore the art of interpretation, from page to stage.
All classroom teachers are invited to our free teacher workshops! Whether you’re teaching a particular play this year, thinking about it for the future, or simply wanting to learn more about approaching complex texts in the classroom, our workshops will immerse you in Shakespeare scholarship, interpretation, and pedagogy.
In these workshops, teachers will identify problematic language, explore what it means to “disrupt” texts through recontextualizing and casting choices, and learn practical ways to engage and activate the text, with Shakespeare scholars and artists leading the work and discovery.
