Your subscription represents an investment in Chicago Shakespeare’s future

As soon as public health and personal comfort allow, we’ll be welcoming you back. Here are answers to some questions you may have about the 35th Anniversary Season, including why we’ve chosen to hold off on announcing specific dates. Your support and flexibility today mean we can plan for the future, and easily manage any changes.

I MISS THE THEATER! WHEN CAN I COME BACK?

To ensure the health and safety of audiences, artists, and staff, virtual programs and streamed productions start in September 2020, while in-person performances at the Theater are currently slated to begin in early 2021.

WHEN WILL ACTUAL PERFORMANCE SCHEDULES BE ANNOUNCED?

Subscribers will be first to hear the news! Our plan is to announce production dates on a rolling basis over the months ahead, based on guidance from public health officials.

WHAT ABOUT MY SEATS—WILL THEY BE THE SAME FOR EACH SHOW?

Performances will be taking place in the Courtyard Theater, The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare, and our black box theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare. We hope to offer your preferred seat locations in all three theaters. With health and safety measures still evolving, we’ll be in touch if changes are necessary.

WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE YOU TAKING AT THE THEATER?

We pledge to maintain a safe environment for audiences, artists, and staff. Our plans are being shaped by guidance from state and local authorities. Closer to performances starting, we’ll be in touch with details on exactly what you can expect on your return to the Theater. We’ll also be adding a special health and safety page to our website. We know that everyone’s first priority must be safety—and comfort—and we pledge to do everything to make your experience both a safe and comfortable one.

I ALREADY HAVE TICKETS TO AS YOU LIKE IT. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

We’re holding your place for this production, now taking place in Spring/Summer 2021. There are no additional steps to take at this time. Once the performance schedule is set, we will contact you to arrange a new date that’s convenient for you.

WHAT IF THERE ARE CHANGES TO THE SEASON?

This year, Subscribers enjoy a brand-new benefit: the SUBSCRIBER BARD CARD. If current events lead to further adjustments in our season, or your personal circumstances change, there’s no need to worry. The value of your tickets will be automatically moved to your new Subscriber Bard Card to use however and whenever you’d like on future productions (through 2022).

IF I HAVE MONEY ON ACCOUNT, CAN I USE THAT TOWARDS MY SUBSCRIPTION?

Absolutely! The invitation to renew your subscription will arrive in the mail in early September. If you had a credit on account from a canceled production earlier this year, we have indicated in your subscription mailing how to use the credit when renewing online, by mail, or by phone.

WHEN WILL MY TICKETS ARRIVE?

Once schedules are finalized, you’ll receive your tickets well in advance of your performance. We’ll be sharing progress throughout the season by email, so if you aren’t currently receiving updates from us, please email boxoffice@chicagoshakes.com with your preferred email. We’ll make sure that you stay informed.

WHAT ABOUT NAVY PIER? I HEARD IT WAS CLOSING.

Navy Pier’s temporary closure to the public in general will NOT in any way impact our exciting plans to welcome you back to the Theater for the return of live, in‑person performances. The Pier’s Leadership has committed to partnering with us, ensuring a seamless experience for all Chicago Shakespeare patrons during the Pier’s shutdown this winter.
