About the Q Brothers

Musicians, actors, writers, educators, and DJs, GQ and JQ created and starred in the award-winning, internationally acclaimed productions, Othello: The Remix and Funk it Up About Nothin’—both musical, hip-hop “ad-RAP-tations” of Shakespeare’s classics. Othello: The Remix was commissioned for the Globe to Globe Festival by Shakespeare’s Globe, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and Richard Jordan Productions, and had its world premiere at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London for the 2012 Globe to Globe Festival. It then enjoyed a five-month, celebrated run at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, toured to Germany, South Korea, London, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival (MTM: UK Awards, Best Lyrics and Best New Musical); headed to Australia in January 2014 for the acclaimed Sydney Festival before moving to Off Broadway in 2016. Funk it Up About Nothin’ was commissioned by Chicago Shakespeare Theater (Jeff Award, Best Ensemble), ran at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Dress Circle Award, Best Musical), and toured to London and Australia. Their off-Broadway smash hit The Bomb-itty of Errors has toured around the world. Film and television credits include Scratch and Burn (MTV), which they co-created and starred in, as well as work with Fox, CBS, and Showtime. Their numerous album credits as musicians and producers include The Q Brothers’ The Feel Good Album of the Year. The Q Brothers also conduct hip hop workshops for children of all ages, and have worked with Connecticut College, Lehigh University, Lollapalooza Music Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival, the Latin School of Chicago, and Chicago Public Schools.
