Performance History

1996

The Cripple of Inishmaan received its world premiere in the Cottesloe auditorium of the Royal National Theatre, in London, England, on December 12. It was directed by Nicholas Hytner; the set design was by Bob Crowley; the lighting design was by Mark Henderson; the music was by Paddy Cunneen; and the sound design was by Simon Baker.

1998

The Cripple of Inishmaan recieved its American premiere at the Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival (George C. Wolfe, Producer) in New York City, on April 7. It was directed by Jerry Zaks; the set design was by Tony Walton; the costume design was by Ann Roth; the lighting design was by Brian Nason; the sound design was by Aural Fixation; and the projection design was by Sage Marie Carter.

2008

The Cripple of Inishmaan was produced in New York City by the Atlantic Theater Company in conjunction with The Druid Theatre Company of Galway, Ireland.

2009

The Druid and Atlantic Theater co-production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh was awarded a total of 9 prestigious theatre awards from the US, UK and Ireland, including Joe A. Callaway Award—Outstanding Direction for Garry Hynes, a Drama Desk Award—Outstanding Ensemble Performance, Manchester Evening News Theatre Award—Best Visiting Production at The Lowry in Salford, Manchester and Irish Times Irish Theatre Award—Best Supporting Actress for Dearbhla Molloy.

2011

The Druid and Atlantic Theater co-production of The Cripple of Inishmaan launched a major 21 week tour of Ireland and the USA, including stops in Galway, Dublin, Roscommon, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago and for the first time, to the island of Inis Meáin itself.
