WorldStage

Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s WorldStage Series has redefined our reach and importance to Chicago by importing the world's most exciting theatrical events to Chicago and exporting CST productions to global destinations. It affords local theatergoers prime opportunities to experience different cultural traditions and must-see touring shows without ever leaving the city.

To date, the program has featured over 1,000 artists from 22 countries spanning five continents. We have had occasion to host many of our globe’s iconic troupes: The Abbey Theatre from Dublin, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre from London, the Chekhov International Theatre Festival from Moscow, La Comédie Française from Paris, The Farber Foundry from South Africa... the list grows more impressive with each passing year.

CST has toured our own plays abroad to Australia, England, Germany, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Canada and New Zealand and has been met with great acclaim. Artistic Director Barbara Gaines' Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2 was featured in the Royal Shakespeare Company's Complete Works Festival. Pacific Overtures, staged by Gary Griffin, garnered three Laurence Olivier Awards. The CST-commissioned hip-hop adaptation Othello: The Remix represented the United States in the 37-play Globe to Globe festival as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Ours is a landmark commitment to bring the world’s great theaters to Chicago and Chicago Shakespeare to the world.
