Internship Description
The lighting systems at Chicago Shakespeare Theater require a highly qualified group of technicians to present and maintain the magic of the lighting. This department oversees all aspects of lighting, from the Courtyard Theater to Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare and the rehearsal room. We work closely with all the technical departments to insure a safe and creative working environment. Our goal is to anticipate problems and solve them before they appear to us or anyone else.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- A desire for comprehensive knowledge of modern lighting equipment
- Basic Design skills
- Computer design skills
- Computer proficiency, both in word processing and database management>
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Theater background, technical theater experience a plus
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Interest in a high paced, multitasking environment
- Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
- Self-motivated
Internship Responsibilities May Include:
- Assist Lighting Supervisor in day-today maintenance activities
- Work closely with other departments as necessary
- Assist Lighting Designers on a as-needed basis
- Help maintain lighting and special effects equipment
- Keep show paperwork and information as current as possible
- Assist on any special projects should any arise

- A cover letter stating his/her specific interest/s, available dates, and level of commitment (e.g. full-time, 15 hours weekly)
