Short Shakespeare! is part of CST's mission to bring the Bard's works to Chicago-area students and families. Through student matinees in CST's Courtyard Theater, school tours and weekend performances for families, thousands of young audience members each year are introduced to the unparalleled excitement and entertainment of a beautifully produced live Shakespeare play. With the support of charitable community sponsors and individual donations, CST is able to put its full production resources behind important programs like Short Shakespeare!
You can introduce a young person to live theater with this year's Short Shakespeare! The Taming of the Shrew—a 75-minute abridged production playing Saturday mornings at 11:00 a.m., February 25–April 7, in CST's Courtyard Theater. Shakespeare's classic is adapted and staged by prominent Chicago director Rachel Rockwell, whom Chicago Magazine named Best Director of 2010. At CST, Ms. Rockwell directed last summer's production of the delightful new musical The Adventures of Pinocchio, and created choreography for The Merry Wives of Windsor, Romeo and Juliet and Measure for Measure. Ms. Rockwell's other recent directing credits include The Sound of Music, Sweeney Todd and Ragtime at Drury Lane Oakbrook and A Chorus Line and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Marriott Theatre.
