CST is proud to represent the United States in the 37-play Globe to Globe festival presented by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The festival is a multi-lingual presentation of Shakespeare's entire canon, which will take place during the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Beginning on Shakespeare's birthday, each of Shakespeare's plays will be presented in a different language over six weeks. CST's participation in this landmark event is part of CST's World's Stage Series, which strives to bring to Chicago some of the best theater the world has to offer, and to share our uniquely American brand of Shakespeare with the world.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater's contribution to the festival is The Q Brothers' Othello: The Remix, presented in the "language" of American hip-hop. Othello: The Remix, an original CST commission and world premiere, continues CST's collaboration with the Q Brothers, who created the snappy and stylish Funk it Up About Nothing, which CST audiences will remember from the 2008-09 season. Additional Globe to Globe productions come from six continents and include a Zulu presentation of Venus & Adonis from South Africa's Isango Theater, the National Theatre of Greece's Pericles and The South Sudan Theatre Company's Cymbeline.
