Through the commissioning of new stagings and the re-illumination of classical plays, our New Classics initiative stretches artistic boundaries.

New Classics commissions are concrete additions to the American theater canon, and always wrought of the same high standards we bring to our major Shakespeare productions. Our published New Classics scripts bring a sustained viability to these efforts, and an open call for producers and artistic directors across the country to try their hand at these glorious works.

As a living art form, theater by its nature demands that we approach it not as a collection to be dusted off and exhibited, but as an ever-growing, ever-evolving opus. We view New Classics as a means to redouble the range of opportunities we can present to artists, directors and designers—pushing artists and audiences into uncharted territory.
