From the privileged position of insider to the creation of The Dream, dramaturg Ananda Lal wrote articles that contextualized the work for the audiences in India and later for those in the West.
The first essay went into the play program for the original India tour, and focused on the stage history of The Dream in the West, little known to Indians.
The second essay, which appeared in the British Council's newsletter in India, is about the Indian connections in the play.
In the third essay, which Lal wrote for The Telegraph, the largest-circulating English daily newspaper in eastern India, he put down on paper his observations on the process of the creation of the production.
When the production toured the UK, Lal wrote the fourth essay, a piece on the different languages spoken in the play—eight including English.
