Henry Godinez speaks at the Monday morning “meet and greet” for the CST staff and workshop participants about the ideas that informed his approach to setting Romeo and Juliet in a bilingual Latino community.

Karen Zacarías spoke to Associate Director of Education Beatrice Bosco about the process of adapting Shakespeare’s play for a contemporary, bilingual production.
Zacarías addresses how the bilingual adaptation not only opens the play for Spanish-speakers but also opens the layers of energy and passion that are at the heart of Shakespeare’s play.

Watching theater is watching characters make choices, and for Zacarías, speaking multiple languages opens possibilities for more complex choices.

“Plot, Poetry, and Purpose”Zacarías explains her approach to the challenges of adapting Shakespeare.
