The story of Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket and the rest of the children was first told in a book (that you can get at your local bookstore before or after you come to see the show at CST; or you can order a copy on-line). The stage version you'll see at CST is a musical adaptation. In our production, songs help tell the story by furthering the plot and giving us information about characters and events.
Think about your favorite story that you've read in a book. If you were going to create your own play based on that story, would you including singing or other music in your show? Why?—or why not? What songs that you already know might you include to help you tell the story?
