In the opening scene of Macbeth we meet the three Witches. Read the scene out loud together and talk about how you imagine the infamous "Weird Sisters." How might they move, stand and speak? How might they dress? Imagine in full detail what they look like. Then read the scene out loud again—and this time in character! What differences did you notice the second time? How do big choices in character affect the mood of the scene? Every production of Macbeth has a different take on the Witches. And once you've seen CST's production, compare your own ideas with those you've seen on stage!
A desert place. Thunder and lightning. Enter three Witches.
When shall we three meet again
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
When the hurly-burly's done,
When the battle's lost, and won.
That will be ere the set of sun.
Where the place?
Upon the heath.
There to meet with Macbeth.
I come, Graymalkin.
Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
