Production History

The story of Aladdin is from a collection of folktales from Persia, called One Thousand and One Arabian Nights. Some of the other stories may be familiar to you as well, like the tale of “Sinbad the Sailor,” or “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.” Folktales teach us lessons—and have for a very long time. What does Aladdin learn in his story? And what did you learn?

Think of some other familiar folktales and what they teach us:

  • “The Ugly Duckling”...True beauty is inside us.
  • “Little Red Riding Hood”...It’s best to beware of strangers.
  • “The Tortoise and the Hare”...Slow and steady wins the race.
