Tyla Abercrumbie (Lady Capulet) makes her CST debut. Her regional theater credits include: Piano Lesson (Portland Stage Company); Flyin’ West (Court Theatre); Gem of the Ocean (Actors Theatre of Louisville); Intimate Apparel (Milwaukee Repertory Theater); Raisin in the Sun (Studio Arena); Ariadne’s Thread (Victory Gardens Theater); Jitney (St. Louis Black Repertory Theater); and Four Queens No Trump (Onyx Theatre). Her film credits include the feature film Poker House, Timed Served, Mary & Joe. For television, Tyla has played roles on Family Practice, The Tracy Morgan Show, Bette, Cupid and Turks. Tyla grew up in Chicago and attended Taft High School. She is a published playwright/ poet and spoken word performance artist. “When I was a girl I thought I didn’t understand Shakespeare. I heard people say the words but they never looked to be having fun. But the characters are no different from us. The challenge is making the language sound as natural as the language we speak today.”
