Churchill War Museum and Cabinet War Rooms

Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his cabinet met in an underground shelter throughout the war. Sealed up not long after the end of the war, the rooms remained almost intact until they were reopened as a museum in 1984. The museum website features a virtual tour, images of some of the most important rooms, and descriptions of work and life in the shelter.

Exploring 20th Century London

This on-line collection features artifacts and pictures from every decade of the 20th century, including images of life during the Blitz and of the destruction caused by the raids.

Eyewitness to History
A rich trove of first-person accounts of everything from gladiator fights to life on the Mayflower, this site includes an eyewitness description of a night during the Blitz by Ernie Pyle, the popular wartime columnist.
