Q Brothers Return to The Fringe with Newest Work—
Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Richard Jordan Productions Present
A Chicago Shakespeare Production
Othello: The Remix
Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Pleasance Courtyard, 1–27 August
Chicago—June 19, 2012—Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) and Richard Jordon Productions, in association with Pleasance Theatre, announce the return engagement of Chicago's Q Brothers to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with Othello: The Remix, August 1–27, 2012 at 13:55 at Pleasance Courtyard.
Hot off its world premier as part of the Cultural Olympiad's 'Globe to Globe' festival in London and featured engagement in Germany's Shakespeare Festival im Globe Neuss, Othello: The Remix travels to Edinburgh as part of the Festival Fringe. A fresh urban take on William Shakespeare's tragedy, spun out and lyrically rewritten over original beats, Othello: The Remix is hailed by The Guardian (UK) as "well-paced, sophisticated, and at times, very funny." Complete with a live DJ, CST's cast of American hip hop artists hit the stage in an audacious, outrageous, and surprisingly poignant re-imagining of the Bard's classic. Othello: The Remix is a passionate celebration of language which The Telegraph (UK) called "a triumph from beginning to end."
The Q Brothers—GQ and JQ—are America's leading interpreters of Shakespeare through the idiom of hip hop. GQ co-created and starred in the Off-Broadway production of The Bomb-itty of Errors, which has since toured around the world. The Q brothers co-starred and created the hip hop/sketch comedy television show Scratch & Burn for MTV. Together with the Tony Award-winning Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Q brothers, and CST Creative Producer Rick Boynton, created Funk It Up About Nothin'—which received critical acclaim in its world premiere at Chicago Shakespeare and subsequent international tour to New York, Australia, London, and the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Othello: The Remix marks the second collaboration with CST and Rick Boynton. Joining the The Q Brothers in the cast of Othello: The Remix are Jackson Doran, Postell Pringle and DJ Clayton Stamper.
